For more information: If you want to know more about what it is we do at the GIS office, you can join us for our annual GIS Day celebrations, contact our offices, or read the literature available below: What is GIS (Geographic Information System)?
Another to think about GIS is an interactive map on your computer. A good example of this is Mapquest. More than likely, you have used this web mapping tool to find driving routes, locations of businesses, and find address of friends and family. Other common internet mapping sites include Live Maps from MSN, Google maps, and Yahoo! maps. There are also sites that allow you to look at the world in 3D. Google created Google Earth, while NASA has World Wind. If you want to see an interactive map of the County, just click on the LinCoGeoMoose button at the top of the screen or click here. If you want to learn more about GIS, you can go the ESRI website "What is GIS?".
